The Shoreline of Mercy

Like a ship battered by waves,

I drifted farther than I intended—

an innocent curiosity

in a naive child

stripped of her innocence.

Yet Mercy stood at the shoreline,

unmoved by my absence.

Waiting, patiently, for that moment

I would take a look back,

recognize the light

and take a U-turn.
